Wandsworth, London, United Kingdom
The new Lidl Wandsworth store sits within the Southside Shopping Centre on Wandsworth High Street and serves as a flagship UK location for the international retail group, combining modern design, customer convenience and a strong sustainability brief. The building has been delivered to BREEAM standards and incorporates energy-efficient lighting and HVAC, energy recovery ventilation, solar power, water-saving fixtures, rainwater harvesting and green roofing.
To support the long-term operation of the building services that underpin the store’s environmental performance, Dewick & Associates was engaged to author the Mechanical & Electrical Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals on behalf of the project’s M&E services contractor.
Our focus was on producing a single, compliant documentation suite that gives both technical and non-technical building operators clear visibility of how each system has been installed, how it should be operated and what is required to keep it running efficiently.

HAS Electrical is a UK mechanical and electrical contractor delivering combined M&E packages across retail, commercial and industrial sectors.
For the Lidl Wandsworth project, HAS Electrical was responsible for the full mechanical and electrical installation, including low voltage power distribution, lighting and lighting controls, HVAC, energy recovery ventilation and the integration of solar power on a building designed to a high environmental standard. Given Lidl’s exacting brand requirements and the BREEAM certification target, HAS Electrical required a documentation partner who could turn a complex M&E scope into a single, clear handover deliverable for Lidl GB.
Documenting the M&E installation for a flagship supermarket like Lidl Wandsworth requires a level of detail that exceeds standard retail fit-outs. The brief required a comprehensive technical record that balanced operational efficiency with strict BREEAM evidence requirements and energy performance reporting.
The final M&E manuals needed to provide a centralised reference for complex, specialised systems, ensuring that store managers and facilities teams can maintain peak performance. Key systems documented include:
The Dewick & Associates in-house Technical Writing team authored a combined Mechanical & Electrical O&M Manual specifically structured for daily operational utility. By focusing on the practical needs of the onsite team, we transformed complex engineering data into an accessible, high-performance management tool.
Our scope involved drafting detailed technical descriptions and preventative maintenance guidance for all core building services, including:
To ensure long-term asset performance, each section was supported by clear, step-by-step operating instructions. By authoring for both technical contractors and non-technical operations staff, we produced a manual that facilitates rapid fault-finding for maintenance teams while remaining an intuitive resource for store management. This dual-audience approach ensures seamless building operation and protects the integrity of the retail infrastructure.
The project resulted in a fully compliant suite of M&E documentation that supports the long-term operation of a high-profile, sustainability-led store. The Lidl operations team is now equipped with a “single source of truth” for the building services, enabling them to maintain and energy performance whilst minimising the risk of downtime in a busy retail environment.
