The Queensland Health Satellite Hospital Program delivered seven purpose-built healthcare facilities across Southeast Queensland, bringing urgent care, diagnostic services and specialist outpatient clinics closer to rapidly growing communities. Designed to reduce pressure on major metropolitan hospitals, each satellite hospital provides walk-in treatment for minor injuries and illnesses, along with a range of referral-based health services tailored to local community needs.
Dewick & Associates partnered with Hutchinson Builders to deliver a comprehensive multi-site documentation package supporting the successful handover of all seven facilities. Our scope included Building Handover Manuals, project-specific Maintenance Log Sheets and Training Handbooks, covering Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Dry Fire and Medical Gas systems, ensuring each facility was equipped with accurate, quality-assured documentation for ongoing operation and maintenance.

Hutchinson Builders is one of Australia’s largest privately-owned construction companies, with a strong healthcare sector portfolio. For the Queensland Health Satellite Hospital Program, Hutchinson Builders was engaged as builder across the full seven-site programme, taking responsibility for delivering each facility to Queensland Health’s exacting clinical and operational standards. With seven sites to document across multiple southeast Queensland communities and a range of disciplines — including the specialist requirements of medical gas systems and clinical facility documentation — Hutchinson Builders required a documentation partner who could manage the full scope efficiently across all sites within a single coordinated programme.
Producing Building Handover Manuals for a multi-site healthcare programme brings a level of complexity that goes well beyond a single-project scope. Each of the seven satellite hospitals has its own configuration, trade base and documentation requirements, and the medical and clinical nature of the facilities means that accuracy is not just a quality expectation — it directly supports the safety of staff, patients and visitors. Medical gas systems, in particular, demand precise documentation of the installation, commissioning and maintenance requirements because errors in operation can have serious clinical consequences. Coordinating all of this across seven sites simultaneously, and producing Training Handbooks and project-specific Maintenance Log Sheets in addition to the core manual set, required a tightly managed documentation programme with clear accountability at every stage.
Dewick & Associates coordinated the full documentation scope across all seven sites in a single, managed workflow. Our in-house technical writing team authored the Building Handover Manuals for each facility, covering the Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Dry Fire and Medical Gas disciplines, and produced the project-specific Maintenance Log Sheets to give each hospital’s facilities team a practical, structured record of their preventative maintenance obligations. The Training Handbooks were authored to give operational staff a clear, accessible introduction to the building services in their facility — a particularly important deliverable in a clinical setting where the staff responsible for day-to-day building operations may not have a technical background. By managing the programme in-house across all seven sites, we gave Hutchinson Builders a single point of accountability and kept documentation aligned with construction progress across the programme.
The project delivered a complete, multi-site handover documentation package covering all seven Queensland Health Satellite Hospitals. Queensland Health and the individual facility teams across Southeast Queensland now have coordinated Building Handover Manuals, Maintenance Log Sheets and Training Handbooks for each site, giving them the operational records and practical guidance they need to optimise the performance of their building services and minimise the risk of disruption in a clinical environment. For Hutchinson Builders, the deliverable closes out the Satellite Hospital Programme to Queensland Health standards across all seven sites — underpinning facilities whose purpose is to bring better healthcare access to growing Queensland communities.
